Pilates for Parkinson’s in Brisbane

This Pilates program is designed specifically for people living with Parkinson’s, with a focus on supporting movement, confidence, and day-to-day function. Parkinson’s can gradually affect posture, walking, coordination, and the ability to move freely, often leading to smaller, slower movements and increased stiffness. The good news is that targeted exercise is well supported by research as an important way to help maintain mobility and independence.

Pilates provides a structured and adaptable way to work on these challenges. Sessions focus on encouraging bigger, more controlled movements, improving posture, and supporting balance and coordination. We also work on reducing stiffness and helping the body move more efficiently, so everyday activities like walking, turning, and getting up feel more manageable.

My approach is shaped by dedicated study in Parkinson’s, including completion of the Parkinson’s MOOC through the Wicking Dementia Centre (University of Tasmania), along with ongoing learning in movement and rehabilitation. This has given me a deeper understanding of how Parkinson’s affects the body and how exercise can be used in a safe and supportive way.

Sessions are always tailored to your individual needs and how you are feeling on the day. You’ll be guided at your own pace, with a calm and encouraging approach, focusing on what you can do and building from there. Many people find that regular movement not only supports physical ability, but also improves confidence and overall wellbeing.
