Pilates for Dementia

Our Pilates sessions for dementia in Brisbane are designed to gently support movement, confidence, and overall wellbeing in a calm and familiar environment. Living with dementia can affect not only memory, but also coordination, balance, and the ability to carry out everyday movements. With the right approach, movement can still be safe, meaningful, and beneficial.

These sessions focus on simple, guided exercises that support mobility, posture, and balance, while also encouraging body awareness and routine. Maintaining regular movement can help support physical function, reduce stiffness, and provide a sense of structure and familiarity, which is especially important for those living with dementia.

My approach is patient, calm, and adaptable. I have completed a Diploma of Dementia through the Wicking Dementia Centre (University of Tasmania), which has given me a deeper understanding of how dementia affects the individual beyond just physical symptoms. This helps me create sessions that are not only safe, but also supportive of each person’s comfort, communication, and emotional wellbeing.

Sessions are always tailored to the individual, taking into account their abilities, preferences, and how they are feeling on the day. There is no pressure—just gentle guidance, repetition, and encouragement in a supportive environment. The goal is not just exercise, but helping individuals feel more at ease in their body, maintain as much independence as possible, and support overall quality of life.
